Becoming a father is one of life's most rewarding experiences. It's also one of the biggest adjustments you'll ever make.
Nothing truly prepares you for hearing your baby's first cry, operating on little sleep, or realizing that someone now depends on you for everything.
The good news? You don't have to have it all figured out.
Before Baby Arrives
Install the Car Seat
Hospitals will not allow you to leave without one. Install it several weeks before your due date and practice using it.
Prepare Sleeping Arrangements
Your baby should have a safe place to sleep.
Essentials include:
- Crib or bassinet
- Fitted sheets
- Swaddle blankets
- Sound machine
Avoid pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals in the sleep area.

Priorities During the First 90 Days
- Support Your Partner — Your partner is recovering physically and emotionally. Ask regularly: "What do you need from me today?"
- Accept Help — Family and friends want to assist. Let them.
- Lower Expectations — Your house may be messy. Laundry may pile up. That's okay.
- Bond With Your Baby — Feed them. Change diapers. Read books. Hold them. Father-child bonding begins immediately.
- Build Your Village — Fatherhood was never meant to be done alone. Join communities like DSSC where dads can encourage one another through every stage.
You don't have to walk this journey alone.
