Getting outside with the stroller is one of the simplest ways to reset — for you and the little one. Houston's park system is huge, but not every trail is stroller-friendly.
Here are the routes DSSC dads keep coming back to.
Inside the Loop
Hermann Park
Wide paved paths, plenty of shade near McGovern Lake, and easy stroller access to the Japanese Garden and the train. Restrooms and water fountains throughout.
Buffalo Bayou Park
The Kinder Footpaths are fully paved and mostly flat. Park at Lost Lake for shade, restrooms, and a stroller-friendly loop with skyline views.
Discovery Green
Compact and stroller-easy, with splash pads, playgrounds, and food nearby. Great for a short weekday outing downtown.
West Houston
Memorial Park — Eastern Glades
Newly redesigned with wide, flat paths, real shade, and clean restrooms. The Live Oak Court loop is short enough for a nap-time stroll.
Terry Hershey Park
Long paved trail along Buffalo Bayou. Tree canopy keeps it cooler than most Houston parks — good for summer mornings.
North & Northwest
Burroughs Park (Tomball)
Paved perimeter trail around a pond, big playground, and clean restrooms. Family-friendly and rarely crowded on weekdays.
Meyer Park (Spring)
Paved loop, splash pad in summer, and lots of shaded picnic spots for a mid-stride break.
South & Southeast
Clear Lake Park
Waterfront paved paths with a breeze off the lake. Great for stroller runs at sunset.
Sugar Land Memorial Park
Paved trail along the Brazos River with restrooms, a large playground, and easy stroller parking.
Tips for Stroller Outings in Houston
- Go early — before 10am in summer, before 11am the rest of the year.
- Bring more water than you think. For you and baby.
- Look for paved loops so you're never far from the car.
- Check for shade on satellite view before you commit.
- Roll with other dads — DSSC Strides meet up regularly across the city.
The stroller is the ticket. Show up, walk slow, and let the neighborhood do the rest.
